All-black clothes may be considered as fashion statements for many, but nothing beats the glamorous and luxurious feel of white clothes. You’ll always stand out in white, and they’re great to pair with contrasting accessories too. The downside of white clothes, however, is that they show even the most minor stains, and nothing can be hidden on them.
Stained or discolored white clothes are anything but fashionable, and give off an unhygienic vibe. From sipping your drinks to eating strong colored foods carefully, there are so many things you can do to make sure your white clothes don’t fade in their appearance.
Here are some tips to keep your white clothes looking fresh:
1. Separate your colors
One of the biggest mistakes people make is to throw in all their colorful clothing with their delicate white items in the washer. Even light-colored clothes can transfer their color onto your white ones, and the best way for you to avoid this would be to separate your white clothes from the colored wash.
2. Attack stains as soon as possible
We’ve all spilled a few drops of ketchup or coffee on our fresh white shirts. Keep in mind that leaving them there for longer will only cause the stains to seep into the fabric more, making it almost impossible for you to eliminate them later.
To remove stains, rub a high-quality liquid enzyme detergent on your clothes and let it stay for around 15 minutes. If you don’t have detergent, baking soda can do the trick.
Simply pour 4 teaspoons of baking soda into a cup, add a little water, and rub the stain away! For makeup stains, white vinegar can be used.
3. Use hot water only
When washing white clothes, make sure you use hot water. This will help remove all the residue body oils from the shirt and leave it smelling fresh and anew!
Wash your white clothes at a heavy-duty setting if need be. This depends on the depth and severity of the stains on the shirt.
However, some white clothes are susceptible to shrinkage, so make sure you check the care label first before deciding on the water temperature prior to the washing. The last thing you want is to have your clothes not fit you after they’ve been washed!
